Our faith

Our faith in Jesus Christ is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by Romans 8:28, we believe that God can work through every circumstance—including pain, trauma, hardship, and recovery—to bring about His purpose and good. Through personal testimony, compassionate service, recovery support, mental health resources, and specialized care for first responders, we seek to reflect the love of Christ and remind those we serve that their struggles do not define their future. Our mission is rooted in the belief that God can transform pain into purpose, brokenness into healing, and adversity into an opportunity for hope, restoration, and renewed purpose.

Our involvement

My Pain His Purpose Ministries is involved in recovery by providing a safe, supportive, and Christ-centered community where individuals and families can find hope, healing, and practical support. Through our Recovery Community Organization, we connect people to peer support, mental health resources, recovery services, education, and community partnerships that encourage long-term wellness and stability.

Our ministry also recognizes the unique challenges faced by first responders and provides a dedicated focus on their recovery and well-being. By addressing trauma, stress, mental health, and substance use through compassionate, confidential, and faith-informed support, we seek to walk alongside individuals throughout their recovery journey.

We believe recovery is more than overcoming a struggle—it is discovering that God can use our experiences for a greater purpose. Through faith, community, and service, we help people move from pain toward purpose and from isolation toward lasting hope and recovery.

Heather has over 12 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor and is the owner of Heather Brooke, LPC, llc and Clinical Director of Built to Recover.

At the age of 10, Heather developed a hair pulling disorder called Trichotillomania. She spent many years praying for God to take it away and spent years angry with him for not doing so. However, in 2018, God gave her pain purpose when she was inspired to write the first children's book on the market for the disorder. "Where's My Hair? A Trichotillomania Story for Children," went on to earn her The InspireU Network's "Children's Author of 2023". It was during her unprepared acceptance speech that this ministry was born. As she shared her story and said for the first time, "God gave my pain purpose". That phrase went on to become her platform as she competed for Miss Tennessee for America 2024, where she placed 2nd runner-up and Miss Tennessee for America 2025 where she placed 1st runner up. Heather gave her life to Christ as a middle school student in 8th grade but wasn't Baptized until her sophomore year of high school. She rededicated her life to Christ privately in 2018 and publicly in February 2024.

Heather holds an AA in Business and BS in Psychology from University of Phoenix and MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University. She is a member of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Colorado Counseling Association and Marquis Who's Who. Heather is also a Best-Selling Author and was the contributing resource and clinical summary provider for "Reigning Resilient Queens: You Are Not Alone".

Maria started experimenting with drugs in middle school, but by the time she reached high school, addiction had completely taken control of her life.

She graduated as an addict and spent three years in bondage, believing addiction would always define her; until she encountered Jesus at 20 years old.

He didn't just help her overcome her addiction; He radically healed and delivered her, giving her new life that she could never have found on her own.

Mariah has maintained her recovery by staying in God's presence through worship and by allowing His Word to renew her mind and rewire the way she thinks, replacing the lies she once believed with His truth.

"My recovery may be unconventional, but it is a testimony to the transforming power of Jesus Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come'. That verse isn't just something I believe, it's the story of my life."

Having come from humble beginnings, Wendi has experienced numerous times in her life, God give her pain purpose. When her daughter was born 11 weeks premature in 2002, they both barely survived, and her daughter struggled with learning difficulties but seemed to have an amazing ability to connect with nature. Wendi's botanical line, Noel Botanicals, was inspired by her daughter. Wendi founded Wendi's Good Things Market, as a response to the Covid pandemic. At the time, Wendi and her husband owned and operated Locavores, a farm to table restaurant. When their employees were facing layoffs due to the shutdown, Wendi's response was to find another way to keep her employees employed and to serve her community and Wendi's Good Things Market was born. Wendi holds a BA in Business Administration & Management and MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University and an EdD in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University.

Skylar has spent the majority of her life involved with church and following Christ. She gave her life to Christ and was Baptized at 7 years old after attending VBS and rededicated her life to Christ as a sophomore in high school. As a high school student, she served on two youth mission trips to Mexico City, was a leader for her church's VBS, volunteered in the children's ministry and served as an intern for two years for the church's children's ministry prior to being hired on to a paid position in 2022. After being laid off in 2023, due to budget cuts, she began nannying for a couple of families and founded her photography business, SMK Photography. Skylar's mission in her photography is to authentically capture her subjects and share the love of Christ in the process. Skylar has a heart for children, the homeless and less fortunate, which is what led her to become a board member for My Pain His Purpose Ministries. Skylar is the official My Pain His Purpose Ministries event photographer.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for youth in Colorado. Recent data indicates that within one school year, 1 in 5 Colorado high school students (17%) reported seriously considering suicide. It is an unfortunate reality that access to quality mental health care is limited. More so than ever before, it has become increasingly difficult to navigate mental healthcare and prohibitively expensive to afford therapy.

Our organization focuses on improving access and delivery of suicide care. Our unique program provides an avenue for families to obtain actual treatment services for children and youth at risk for suicide by breaking down financial and transportation barriers.

We believe that open, honest communication about the pervasiveness of suicide is critical to reducing its incidence. Our staff and Board of Directors are passionately working to provide vital access to life-saving therapy for youth in rural and urban areas of Colorado.

I Matter Colorado

I Matter Colorado

Colorado House Bill 21-1258 established I Matter in 2021 to provide access to mental health and substance use disorder services for youth, and to address needs that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. I Matter is open to youth 18 years of age or younger, or 21 years of age or younger if receiving special education services.

In May 2024, the Colorado State Legislature made the program permanent via Senate Bill 24-001.

I Matter is managed by the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration. I Matter provides up to six free therapy sessions for youth in Colorado and reimburses participating licensed therapists.
